Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh lead India to victory over West Indies in Women’s T20 WorldCup 2023



India faced off against West Indies in a Group B match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 at Newlands in Cape Town. West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian bowlers put up a disciplined performance, limiting West Indies to 118/6 in 20 overs.

Opener Stafanie Taylor top-scored for West Indies with 42 runs off 40 balls, while Shemaine Campbelle contributed 30. Deepti Sharma was the standout performer for India, picking up three wickets for 15 runs. Pooja Vastrakar and Renuka Singh also chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing a modest target of 119 runs to win, India lost their top three batters within the first seven overs, putting them in a tight spot. However, the partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh turned the game in India’s favor.

Kaur and Ghosh put up a brilliant display of batting, scoring 50 runs together and leading India to a seven-wicket victory over the West Indies. Ghosh remained unbeaten on 44 runs off 32 balls, while Kaur scored 36 runs off 32 balls.

Deepti Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant bowling performance, becoming the first Indian to reach 100 T20I wickets.


India made a couple of changes to their playing XI, with Smriti Mandhana and Devika Vaidya replacing Yastika Bhatia and Harleen Doel. West Indies also made a single change, with Karishma Ramharack coming in for Zaida James.


The Indian women’s team put up a fantastic display of cricket, with both their batting and bowling departments performing exceptionally well. They will be looking to carry this form forward as they continue to compete in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.


It was a convincing win for India over West Indies, with Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh’s partnership being the highlight of the match. The Indian women’s team will be looking to build on this performance as they continue to compete in the tournament.
